Ukrainian MPs suggest naming Azerbaijani officer Hero of Ukraine

Azerbaijani captain Ilgar Baghirov, who died in the battles for the territorial integrity of Ukraine on the country's eastern borders, can be named a Hero of Ukraine posthumously.

The mayor of the Ukrainian city of Irpen, Oleksandr Markushin, told Report that the city council had made a decision and appealed to President Volodymyr Zelensky.

He noted that at present, they are waiting for the result with great hopes.

Following the City Rada, the Kyiv Regional Rada adopted the same decision and appealed to the President of Ukraine.

Ilgar Baghirov, a resident of Irpen, died on September 30, 2014 during heavy fighting in the town of Debaltseve, Luhansk region. His reconnaissance team was surrounded. After inflicting heavy losses on the other side, Ilgar Baghirov saw that he would not escape the siege and blew himself up with a hand grenade.
