Head of Azerbaijani Diaspora calls on Dutch MPs

Chairman of the Dutch-Azerbaijani Turkish Cultural Association Ilhan Ashkin strongly protested against the House of Representatives of the Dutch Parliament, Report informs, citing the State Committee on Work with the Diaspora told Report.

The reason was that members of the chamber urged government officials not to participate in the quarterfinals in Baku if the country's national football team wins.

Ashkin noted that the news in the Dutch media upset our compatriots who were happy with the national team's success in this championship. "The call of the parliament has disappointed the people of Azerbaijan. Sport is such a beautiful field that even two hostile countries hold competitions. It is as if nothing has happened, and the worthy side gains a victory."

Stressing that they expect mutual understanding from Dutch political circles, Ashkin addressed harsh questions to the parliamentarians: "Do you have any information about Azerbaijanis captured by the Armenian occupiers since 1992? Two weeks ago, mines planted by these occupiers in the liberated lands of Azerbaijan resulted in the death of two young journalists. Did you have any reaction on this issue? How their rights will be protected? There is hypocrisy; besides, the European does not raise his voice and deeply regrets us by keeping silent about sports involvement in politics. I hope that they will not use sports as a tool for political games by making sound decisions. "
