Germany rejects asylum applications from 279 Azerbaijani citizens since start of year

A total of 528 Azerbaijani citizens asked for asylum in Germany during the first three months of 2024, the German Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF) said in response to the request of Report's European bureau.

It was noted that the applications of 395 Azerbaijani citizens were considered during that period. Only 3.8% of them were recognized as refugees and received a residence permit in Germany. A decision was made on procedural completions in 101 cases.

The BAMF stated that a total of 279 Azerbaijani citizens received a negative response to their application for refugee status during three months. They were asked to leave the country voluntarily. Some of them lived illegally in Germany despite the warning. The cases of those persons were sent to local administrative courts.

Over the course of three months, a total of 71,061 foreign citizens came to Germany and applied for asylum, an increase of 19.3 percent compared to the same period of 2023.
