Azerbaijani community calls on US Congress to immediately take action against Nancy Pelosi

The board members of the American Azerbaijani Community appealed to American politicians on the speech of the Speaker of the US House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, during her visit to Armenia, Report informs, citing the State Committee for Work with Diaspora.

The appeal says:

"We, the board members of the Azerbaijanis' Coordination Council in America and leaders of Azerbaijani diaspora organizations living in different states of the USA, are very concerned about the safety of our relatives living in the Azerbaijan Republic. We moved with our families to the USA, believing that it is the cradle of democratic principles in the world. However, Nancy Pelosi and her supporting congressmen act against the democratic principles where human rights and justice must be protected.

"The statement made by the Speaker of the US House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, during her visit to Armenia on September 18, 2022, which distorts the situation in the region, is deeply regrettable. Groundless and unfair accusations made by N. Pelosi against Azerbaijan are unacceptable.

"The incident that took place on the deemed border, which is not delimited yet, on the night of September 12-13, 2022, was a large-scale military provocation by Armenia against Azerbaijan, and this provocation was prevented by the Armed Forces of Azerbaijan, and the sovereignty and territorial integrity of our country were ensured. Currently, the ceasefire regime is observed, and the escalation of the situation has been prevented.

"All responsibility for the escalation of the situation in the region and the large-scale provocation lies with the military-political leadership of Armenia.

"2022 marks the 30th anniversary of US-Azerbaijan diplomatic relations, yet, instead of supporting Azerbaijan's good will of providing gas to Europe, which is on the face of running out of gas due to the war between Russia and Ukraine, the fair establishment of peace and economic relations with Armenia, Nancy Pelosi, and all others prefer biased, pro-Armenian politics over democratic principles, and instead of solving the social and economic problems of Americans in the United States, they support the escalation of conflicts in foreign regions and create conditions for more people to die in this conflict.

"On November 9, 2020, the state of Azerbaijan, which implements the 4 (four) United Nations Secure resolutions by military power, signed a peace treaty with Armenia.

"The state of Azerbaijan is carrying out major restoration works on our lands, implementing projects amounting 3 billion US dollars, and currently in the process of demining about one million landmines planted by Armenians (recall that since the end of the war, hundreds of people have become victims of landmines and other explosive devices planted by the Armenian side and tens of them lost their lives).

"This is the evidence that the State of Azerbaijan is not interested in any conflicts with Armenia, but peace only.

"However, what N. Pelosi said during her visit to Armenia should be regarded as a statement made based on Armenian propaganda. This is a serious blow to efforts to normalize relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

"We regretfully emphasize that N. Pelosi, who speaks about justice, has not demonstrated any position regarding the policy of aggression by Armenia against Azerbaijan, occupation of Azerbaijan's territory for almost 30 years, complete destruction of Azerbaijani cities, villages, schools, hospitals, cemeteries, the ethnic cleansing of hundreds of thousands of Azerbaijanis and other such serious crimes for which Armenia is responsible.

"Such unilateral steps and groundless statements serve not to strengthen the fragile peace in the region but rather to escalate tension.

"We call on US Congress to immediately take action against such behavior coming from Nancy Pelosi for her efforts to escalate new conflicts between Armenia and Azerbaijan."
