Baku. 14 January. REPORT.AZ/ The citizens of Azerbaijan were restricted from Ukraine for hacing just a slightly more than $400 with them. Later they were deported and prohibited to visit the country for three years.
One of them Mammadov Elchin Alesker told Report that he together with Guliyev Karam Ilham was detained at the Kyiv International Airport (Zhuliany). He noted that they planned to visit Ukraine as tourists.
"At first, they asked about the amount of money we have. We stated that we have no more than $ 100 in cash and funds on our bank cards. We said that we would be met by a friend in Kiev where we planned to stay. Then they told us that entry into the country was prohibited for us. They explained that due to having over $400 with us we are not allowed to visit Ukraine. Our passports were stamped and we were banned from Ukraine for the period until 2022”, the Azerbaijani citizen said.
In response to an inquiry from Report, the Ukrainian Embassy in Azerbaijan said that the decision of the Cabinet of Ministers of the country No. 884 dated December 4, 2013 states that upon entering the territory of Ukraine, foreigners and stateless persons must have sufficient financial guarantees when staying in the country or using it as a transit country.
The embassy also said that they are investigating the case.
