Association of Azerbaijanis in Russia expresses concern over Ara Abrahamyan’s statement

The Advisory Council of the Interregional Association of Azerbaijanis in Russia (IAAR) has expressed serious concern over the provocative statement by President of the Union of Armenians in Russia (UAR) Ara Abrahamyan posted on the official website of the UAR dated January 30, 2022, regarding the screening of the feature film “Garegin Nzhdeh,” Report informs referring to the organization.

The organization says that Abrahamyan manipulated public opinion, justifying Nzhdeh and describing him as a bright personality, while “Garegin Nzhdeh was the leader of an Armenian nationalist party similar to Hitler’s, closely cooperated with the leadership of Nazi Germany, actively fought against the Soviet Union.”

The IAAR considers it unacceptable to glorify fascism in any form, including by showing a feature film, publishing literature, erecting monuments, etc., dedicated to fascist accomplices.

“The demonstration of the feature film 'Garegin Nzhdeh' is nothing but an insult to the memory of the dead and those who went through the horrors of the Great Patriotic War,” the IAAR statement says.

Earlier, Russian veterans accused the UAR of rehabilitating fascism for a film about Nzhdeh.
