UNESCO experts to travel to Gaziantep, Aleppo to assess damage to ancient sites

UNESCO plans to involve its experts in order to assess the damage caused to the historic fortress of Gaziantep in Turkiye and the citadel of Aleppo in Syria after the earthquake. These sites are included in the UNESCO World Heritage List, Report informs referring to press attache of the organization Thomas Mallard.

“UNESCO will bring its experts together with its partners such as ICOMOS to provide an accurate damage assessment to protect the sites,” he noted, adding that UNESCO is particularly concerned about the plight of the ancient city of Aleppo.
