Azerbaijan's Ministry of Culture welcomes UNESCO's agreement on sending a mission to Armenia and Azerbaijan in the near future, the ministry told Report.
"As is known, there are rich examples of the historical, cultural, and religious heritage of Azerbaijanis living in Armenia for centuries. As early as 1869, according to statistics published in the Caucasian Calendar for 1870 published by the Russian governor of the Caucasus, there were 269 mosques in the Iravan province alone. In addition to mosques, the list also includes the khan's palace in Yerevan, the walls of the Iravan fortress, as well as numerous baths, caravanserais, tombs, and cemeteries that existed in present-day Armenia. We hope that the forthcoming UNESCO mission will be important in terms of a detailed study, appropriate monitoring, and documentation of the heritage of the Azerbaijani people in the territory of Armenia," the ministry said.
