Mexican Embassy in Baku holds event to mark Day of Dead

The Embassy of Mexico has organized an event in Baku dedicated to the national holiday of this country - Day of the Dead, Report informs.

Charge d'Affaires of Mexico Aristeo Gonzalez Guerrero, who spoke at the event, delivered a speech about the history of this holiday in Mexican culture.

The diplomat noted that on the Day of the Dead, Mexicans visit cemeteries to communicate with the souls of deceased relatives, build altars with photographs and relics on the graves, and bring the favorite drinks and food of the deceased.

In addition, on the occasion of the day, an altar was built at the embassy in memory of the famous Mexican actor Chabelo (Xavier López Rodríguez), who died this year.

“Chabelo is the favorite of all Mexicans. Many generations of people grew up watching him. He hosted children’s programs. He was in dozens of films, TV series, telenovelas, but first of all we all remember him as Chabelo. Therefore, many altars in Mexico are dedicated specifically for him,” Aristeo Gonzalez Guerrero noted.
