"Work is underway to restore the current building of the National Youth Palace in Tbilisi, where the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic (APR) was declared," said Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze, the Report's local bureau informs.
According to him, the historic building is an important and valuable monument of cultural heritage: "At this stage, the roof of the building is repaired, internal communication lines, doors, and windows, facade are restored. Besides, the restoration work also includes strengthening the retaining wall and foundation.
The mayor also said that repair work would also cover the interior: "We also plan to restore artistic and decorative elements in the halls and damaged parts of the decorative balustrade."
Notably, on May 28, 1918, Azerbaijan Democratic Republic adopted the Declaration of Independence in the mirror hall of the building, and the establishment of the first democratic republic in the East was officially announced. There is an informative board in Azerbaijani, Georgian, and English at the entrance to the hall.
