Azerbaijan to work to include Nakhchivan’s historical and architectural monuments in UNESCO list

In order to increase the tourist attractiveness of Azerbaijan’s Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic and ensure international protection of the historical and architectural monuments located there, work will be carried out to include them in the main list of the UNESCO material cultural heritage, according to the State Program for Social and Economic Development of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic for 2023-2027, Report informs.

The state program provides for measures to develop this territory and turn the region into a competitive tourist destination through the use of salt deposits, mineral waters, historical and religious monuments, as well as favorable natural conditions for ecotourism in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic. It is planned to implement measures in the direction of expanding the possibilities of health tourism, developing winter and rural tourism, ecotourism and improving tourism infrastructure.

At the same time, the creation of tourist and recreational zones will have a significant impact on strengthening the tourism potential of the region, and the implementation of projects related to the promotion of tourist zones and the preparation of a tourist atlas will be ensured.

On June 5, President Ilham Aliyev signed the Decree ‘On the Approval of the State Program for the Social and Economic Development of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic for 2023-2027.
