Ancient settlement discovered in Sheki

Remains of an ancient settlement were discovered during excavations in Sheki.

According to the North-West bureau of Report, for the first time during the Fazil village excavations, an archeological team found artifacts confirming the traces of the ancient settlement, along with the old cemetery.

Besides, archaeologists noticed a yellow, medium-sized layer of soil. They also discovered a 2,000-year-old potter's oven during the cleanup.

Zaur Hasanov, head of the expedition, told Report that the find was unique. "The large number and rich clay pots and kitchen utensils spotted here in the past were not imported but were produced in the village of Fazil. Production means sedentary, urban culture."

Officials will display the items in the underground museum called "Labyrinth" in Fazil after registration. A catalog and explanation of the findings will be issued in international publications.

Archaeological excavations in the village of Fazil will continue next year.
