Yerlan Nyssanbayev: Without adequate climate financing, emission reduction remains on paper

Today, the key issue on the path to solving the global climate problem is determining the goals and mechanisms of climate financing, Kazakhstan's Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources Yerlan Nyssanbayev said in an interview with Report.

"The key issue that we must find a common solution to is climate financing. Without serious financial support, all our actions to reduce emissions lose effectiveness," Nyssanbayev emphasized.

He noted that many developing countries have already made commitments to reduce emissions, including Kazakhstan, which made reducing methane emissions its goal last year: "However, despite some progress on financing, its volume is still insufficient."

The minister expressed hope that by the end of the COP29 conference, final decisions on this issue will be made, as without financial mechanisms, all promises risk remaining only on paper: "This is the cornerstone, without which everything we say and plan remains merely declarative."

According to the minister, the problem of climate change requires joint action from all countries, as it cannot be solved at the level of one country or region.

"Synchronization of actions from all states is necessary. Only in this way can we achieve the desired result. Otherwise, fragmented measures are doomed to failure," he added.

Nyssanbayev also highly praised Azerbaijan's preparation for COP29, noting that despite the tight timeframe, the event was organized at the highest level.
