An event dedicated to Azerbaijan’s chairmanship at the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) has been held in Washington, the US bureau of Report informs.
The event in a hybrid format called COP29: Enhancing Ambition, Enabling Action was organized by the Azerbaijani Embassy in Washington together with the US Chamber of Commerce. It was attended by representatives of US government agencies, the diplomatic corps, the private sector, foreign and local media, as well as other interested parties.
The guests were first greeted by Senior Vice President of the Chamber of Commerce, Khush Choksy, who informed the participants about the program of the event.
Azerbaijani Ambassador Khazar Ibrahim, in his speech, spoke about the events taking place in the world against the backdrop of climate change, and the work done within Azerbaijan’s chairmanship at COP29.
US Principal Deputy Special Envoy for Climate Sue Biniaz spoke about her country’s goals at COP29 and emphasized that she is satisfied with the cohesive work being done by Azerbaijan to submit its biennial transparency report on time.
Lead negotiator of COP29, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan Yalchin Rafiyev noted that the UN Climate Change Conference held in Bonn allowed for constructive discussions and created an additional platform for meetings of the parties on climate change issues. He also emphasized the importance of collaboration with the private sector on climate finance.
The event continued with a question and answer session.
