UNICEF praises initiative to increase focus on children in COP29 discussions

UNICEF highly appreciates the initiative that makes children the central theme of discussions at COP29, UNICEF Regional Advisor on Sustainability and Climate Change Maria Osbeck said at the event "Raising Human Capital for Green Future," Report informs.

According to her, the initiative to build human capital for a green future is the foundation of the investment process.

"For the first time at COP29, a special day is being organized dedicated to children and youth. I believe that investments in education bring greater returns. However, today, most climate financing from banks is not directed towards essential social services needed by children, including education. Only 2.4% of multilateral funds for climate action finance essential social services needed by children. We must change this," said Osbeck.

Osbeck noted that when talking about curricula and educational standards, we cannot forget about schools, distance learning, and teachers.

"We must ensure that teachers have progress in climate change knowledge and incentives to achieve it. This is at the center of UNICEF's activities both globally and regionally. We are satisfied with the attention given to teachers and school infrastructure in Azerbaijan," she said.
