The introduction of early warning systems should not only ensure the forecast of the impact of climate on the environment but also enable the adoption of preventive measures to minimize losses, according to a UN representative.
Speaking at an event focused on managing early warning systems during COP29, Kamal Kishore, Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Disaster Risk Reduction and Head of the UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction, emphasized the importance of comprehensive analysis and continuous improvement.
Every country possesses the potential to manage disaster risks at various levels, Kishore stated, adding that to achieve success, it is necessary to mobilize all efforts and continue investing in the enhancement of early warning systems.
Kishore highlighted that in many countries, these systems require significant investment.
He noted that this is not a one-time solution, but an ongoing process that demands continuous refinement.
The UN official stressed that it is necessary to meticulously analyze every climate event, assess the effectiveness of existing systems, and seek ways to modernize them.
