Turkish Parliament may pass climate law early next year

The Turkish Parliament may adopt a Climate Law early next year, which will create a favorable foundation for achieving the zero-emission goal by 2053, Turkish Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Murat Kurum told Anadolu Agency on the sidelines of COP29 in Baku, Report informs.

The minister reminded that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced the ambitious goal of achieving zero emissions by 2053 specifically at the COP29 conference.

He noted that the government is currently working on creating the necessary infrastructure to implement this goal. In particular, the Turkish Parliament will consider adopting a new Climate Law in the first quarter of 2025.

Kurum also said that the main topic of COP29 is climate financing, and Türkiye hopes that the negotiations will achieve the set goals, including simplifying access to finance for developing countries.
