Timur Butunbaev: Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan actively co-op in water conservation issues

Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan are actively exchanging experience in water resource conservation and combating shallow water levels and desertification, first deputy minister of water resources of Uzbekistan, Timur Butunbaev, told Report.

"The President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev especially emphasized Azerbaijan's role in promoting climate issues and water resource conservation. I think the perspective is broad, everything depends on ministries, private sector, and how we will organize our cooperation," he said.

Butunbaev emphasized that the problem of the Aral and Caspian Seas is high on the agenda and opens opportunities for cooperation in this area.

Speaking about activities in water-saving technologies, the deputy minister emphasized that connections have been established between the two countries both at the ministerial level and in the private sector.

The first deputy also emphasized the importance of engaging the international community, noting that issues of desertification and water resource conservation should be raised more frequently at climate conferences.
