SPECA Climate and Innovation Dialogue established within COP29

A declaration on establishing the UN Special Programme for the Economies of Central Asia (SPECA) Dialogue on Climate and Innovation was signed in Baku within COP29.

Report informs, citing the Ministry of Economy, that the document was signed during the ministerial meeting of the dialogue.

The launch of the SPECA Multilateral Trust Fund to support joint climate initiatives of countries in the region was announced at the event.

Azerbaijan's Minister of Economy Mikayil Jabbarov emphasized SPECA's importance for the region. He noted that the program has become an important platform for regional cooperation, promoting economic development, environmental sustainability, and innovation in participating countries.

Through SPECA, the countries are strengthening their economies and building a future ready for climate change challenges, the minister stated.

UN ESCAP Executive Secretary Armida Salsiah Alisjahbana and UNECE Executive Secretary Tatiana Molchan emphasized the significance of dialogue and joint initiatives in addressing climate challenges. They noted that the platform could enhance synergy in areas such as strengthening innovative ecosystems and technologies for sustainable development.
