The decisions that will be made within COP29 will help shape the mechanisms of national, regional, and global cooperation in fighting climate change, the Speaker of the House of Representatives of Tajikistan, Mahmadtoir Zokirzoda, said at the parliamentary meeting during COP29, Report informs.
According to him, Tajikistan, which is very vulnerable to climate change, faces serious obstacles in achieving Sustainable Development Goals. "In particular, we are concerned about the rapid melting of glaciers. Countries must accelerate the transition to renewable energy sources to reduce greenhouse gas emissions," the speaker emphasized.
Zokirzoda also noted that by 2032-2037, Tajikistan intends to completely switch to renewable energy sources and become a fully green country. "Currently, about 98% of electricity in the country is generated through hydroelectric power," he added.
