Simon Stiell: Urgent action needed in all countries and regions to combat climate change

As the environmental impacts of climate change escalate, it is becoming clear that no country is immune, UN Climate Change Executive Secretary Simon Stiell said on September 3 in Baku during the High-Level Dialogue: Advancing Climate Transparency through Universal Participation in the Enhanced Transparency Framework (ETF), Report informs.

Urgent climate action is needed in every country and every region, he said.

He also noted that targeted climate policy is vital to accelerating the green transition and strengthening sustainability across all sectors of the economy.

At the center of these processes are the Biennial Transparency Reports (BTRs). These reports will create a strong evidence base for identifying national priorities, improving climate policy and securing the financing needed for effective action, he said.

Stiell emphasized that thanks to the BTR, parties can track progress, verify the achievement of goals and identify where additional action and support is needed.

Transparency allows countries to learn from each other and support climate action that benefits everyone. To ensure that everyone can fully benefit from climate transparency, there was close work with the COP29 Presidency over the past year, he concluded.
