Rueanna Haynes: Financial support will enable countries suffering from climate change to stand on their own feet

Ensuring financial accessibility will enable vulnerable countries suffering from climate change to stand on their own feet, Rueanna Haynes, head of the climate diplomacy team of the Alliance of Small Island States, told a panel session on "Climate Justice and Equality" held within the framework of COP29, Report informs.

According to Haynes, climate change causes serious damage in small island countries:

"Significant funding is needed to repair this damage. For example, in Caribbean countries, people's earnings are lower compared to developing countries. They even have difficulty getting loans. Although these countries don't contribute to climate change, they suffer from it. They take loans to adapt to the change. I think this financing needs to be increased and its sources need to be expanded."
