Rafiyev: COP29 leaders' summit allowed to determine political direction for further discussions

The world leaders' summit at COP29 became an important opportunity to determine the political direction for the next two weeks of the conference, COP29 Lead Negotiator Yalchin Rafiyev said on November 14 at a press conference at COP29 in Baku, Report informs.

Rafiyev reminded that 80 world leaders participated in the summit, including heads of state and government, united by a common goal - to reach consensus and give momentum to climate action.

"We [the COP29 team] made special efforts to ensure that the voices of small island developing states were heard at the highest level by organizing a special event within the conference. We listened to representatives of communities that are on the frontline of dealing with climate change impacts. They spoke about irreversible losses and reminded us of the importance of implementing the plan to increase ambition and accelerate action. They made it clear again that collective efforts are needed for success," he said.
