Princess Dana Firas: Serious steps should be taken for sustainable tourism development

Serious steps should be taken to develop sustainability in the tourism sector, according to Princess Dana Firas of Jordan, President of Petra National Trust and UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador for Cultural Heritage, Report informs.

She made this statement at the First Ministerial meeting on Enhanced Climate Action in Tourism, held within the framework of COP29.

"The tourism sector has the potential to ensure economic development, promote intercultural ties, and ensure the preservation of natural and cultural treasures," Princess Dana emphasized. "In Jordan, tourism accounts for 14.6% of the GDP, making it a significant sector for sustainable development and climate action."

UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador noted that the tourism initiative at COP29 contributes to the creation of a global architecture. "This is a framework where we can contribute to global peace and justice, gain access to necessary financing, and enable tourism to develop and contribute to climate action," Princess Dana explained.

Princess Dana Firas also stressed the need for taking significant steps towards sustainability in the tourism sector. "We must focus on sustainable tourism practices, investments in renewable energy, waste management systems, and green infrastructure," she added.
