The 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) to be held in Azerbaijan this year will be special, President of the Liberal International Organization, Hakima El Haite, told Report.
“We have high expectations from any COP. But this time the Conference of the Parties will be special because it is a follow-up to COP28, where the global community decided to divest from fossil fuels. This means that at COP29 we have to find ways to move away from fossil fuels," she said.
Hakima EL Haite said that G20 countries account for approximately 80% of global greenhouse gas emissions: "Let's ask these 20 countries to give us their action plan and tell us how to reduce these emissions at the COP29 discussions. COP29 will be responsible for creating a system of transparency and accountability."
In the end, Hakima El Haite wished Azerbaijan success in holding this large-scale event.
