Preparations for holding summit of religious leaders within COP29 discussed

Preparations for holding a summit of religious leaders within the framework of the COP29 conference to be held in Azerbaijan were discussed with the Council of Muslim Elders.

Report informs that the discussion was held at the meeting between Ramin Mammadov, the Chairman of Azerbaijan’s State Committee on Affairs with Religious Associations, and Mohammed Abdulsalam, Secretary General of the Muslim Council of Elders.

At the meeting, the chairman of the State Committee spoke about the importance Azerbaijan attaches to the development of mutually beneficial cooperation relations with the Islamic world in all areas, as well as the strengthening of Islamic solidarity. Mammadov emphasized that Azerbaijan contributes to the promotion of Islamic values ​​and culture on an international scale.

Mammadov also touched on the importance of the experience gained by the Muslim Council of Elders, which acted as the main organizer in the interfaith pavilion organized for the first time at COP28 by the relevant decision of the UN, as well as held the summit of religious leaders together with the Vatican.

Secretary General of the Muslim Council of Elders, Mohammed Abdulsalam, hailed the example set by Azerbaijan under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev towards the realization of interreligious dialogue in the Islamic world. At the same time, Abdulsalam said he is hopeful that the summit, which will be held in cooperation with Azerbaijan within the framework of COP29, will contribute to interreligious dialogue.
