Panel discussion titled 'Dialogue for Climate Action' held in Baku

Director of the Center for Agrarian Research of Azerbaijan Rashad Huseynov participated in the panel discussion "Dialogue for Climate Action: No Food Security Without Water," organized by the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA) within the framework of COP29, Report informs.

Huseynov spoke about the work being carried out in Azerbaijan in the field of irrigation water management.

The director noted that reservoirs and irrigation canals in the country are being built and repaired using state funds. In recent years, new reservoirs have been created to meet the growing water demand, and work is being done to deliver water through closed channels and pipes to save water.

Huseynov also emphasized that the state encourages the use of modern water-saving irrigation systems in agriculture and provides support for their installation. Farmers only pay 20% of the total amount as an advance for installing modern irrigation systems, 40% is covered by the state, and interest-free loans for 5 years and subsidies are provided for the remaining amount.

The event also discussed issues of water scarcity, solutions in water access, food production, food security, biodiversity, climate change resilience, and disaster risk reduction.
