Nuclear energy is a reliable source of electricity that contributes to the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions and plays an important role in combating climate change, head of the State Agency for Nuclear and Radiological Activity Regulation, Nijat Aliyev, said during a panel discussion on "Radiation and Climate Change. New Challenges."
Report quotes him as saying Azerbaijan is actively working on mitigating climate change effects. "The use of nuclear technologies in this process is currently one of the advanced methods," he said.
Aliyev noted that the application of nuclear technologies in agriculture is also crucial for ensuring food security, implementing sustainable agricultural production methods, and improving the quality of agricultural products.
Emphasizing that Azerbaijan actively cooperates with the IAEA, he expressed hope that the memorandum of understanding on energy planning signed between Azerbaijan and the IAEA will make a significant contribution to fighting climate change.
