Nigel Topping : Both government, non-government organizations should unite for climate action

In order to reduce and share the impacts of climate change and mobilize resources to deliver finance at scale, government and non-government organizations must come together, Climate Change High-Level Champion and a non-executive director of the UK Infrastructure Bank Nigel Topping stated, Report informs.

He made these insights at the COP29 Business, Investment, and Philanthropy Climate Platform organized jointly with the Azerbaijan Export and Investment Promotion Agency (AZPROMO) as part of COP29 in Baku.

Topping highlighted the growing importance of the negotiations taking place within the framework of COP29. "Today, events are being held in the Blue and Green zones in Azerbaijan. This means that two COPs are happening simultaneously. It is a miracle of modern human cooperation and diplomacy that representatives from 200 countries gather here to agree on very detailed rules of the game," he remarked.

According to the Paris Climate Agreement, global warming must remain at 1.5°C compared to pre-industrial levels to minimize the impacts. “People are suffering from the effects of climate change," Topping added.
