UN Champion for COP29 says necessary to use power of science to combat climate change consequences

To achieve the set targets in combating the consequences of climate problems, it is necessary to utilize the power of science, Nigar Arpadarai, the UN Climate Change High-Level Champion for COP29 Azerbaijan, stated at the conference themed Accelerating Research and Collaboration for Climate Action held as part of the Baku Climate Action Week, Report informs.

Arpadarai emphasized that the world is at a critical juncture. "According to scientists, we are on the verge of consequences that could harm the planet. It is crucial to strengthen the impact of the latest scientific knowledge related to climate change on global policy," she said, stressing the need for international cooperation in this direction. "Countries should work together to share best practices, and it is important for the private sector to be an active partner in this endeavor."

The UN champion highlighted that academic and research collaborations are at the forefront of climate research. "Increasing funding for climate research and development, and ensuring accessibility to this research, is necessary," she noted.

“Currently, 14 initiatives put forward in the field of climate change are relevant. As one of these initiatives, we have put forward the increase of human capital and the expansion of environmental awareness."
