Moldova will participate in the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) to be held in Baku, Igor Grossu, the President of the Moldovan parliament, told Report.
He noted that Azerbaijan and Moldova are facing climate change. Both countries have a moderate continental climate: "In recent decades, climate change has become one of the most urgent problems facing humanity. Extreme events such as persistent droughts, destructive storms, and rising sea levels are becoming more frequent and intense due to rising global temperatures. These changes have a very serious impact not only on the environment but also on people's lives, countries' economies and ecosystems. But there is hope to fight these problems. We can solve these problems with international cooperation, technological innovations, as well as concrete steps at the local, regional and global level."
He added that in this sense, the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, held every year since 1995, is the most important platform that brings together leaders from all over the world to develop and implement sustainable solutions to protect the planet and future generations.
According to Grossu, common problems include temperature changes, drought, floods, soil erosion and air pollution:
"Our states actively participate in the fight against these challenges and cooperate in solving climate change problems. On the other hand, Moldova and Azerbaijan cooperate not only in the field of climate. There are also close relations, political, diplomatic, economic, energy, cultural, and social cooperation between our countries that we have developed over many years. We highly appreciate Azerbaijan’s great achievements since gaining independence in 1991.
We hope that our relations based on friendship, trust, and respect for international law will continue to strengthen."
