Mishustin: Russia plans to achieve carbon neutrality by 2060

Russia plans to achieve carbon neutrality by 2060, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin said at the COP29 Leaders Summit in Baku, according to Report,

"We plan to achieve carbon neutrality by 2060. We are focusing on improving energy efficiency, developing electric transport, and implementing modern solutions in agriculture and forestry. In Russia, 85% of the energy balance already comes from 'clean,' low-emission generation. This is primarily gas and nuclear energy, as well as renewable sources," he said.

According to him, Russia has reduced greenhouse gas emissions by more than half compared to 1990 levels.

He called for joining efforts in fighting climate change, highlighting four priority areas for cooperation. These include agreeing on a new collective goal for climate financing for developing countries, preventing discrimination against technologies under the pretext of global warming, creating a unified system for assessing the quality of climate projects, and strengthening cooperation between scientific communities to make effective decisions on decarbonization and adaptation.
