The application of the green education system starting from primary school is important, Mukhtar Babayev, Azerbaijani Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources and COP29 President-designate, said in his opening remarks at an event titled “The Role of Higher Education in the Climate Transition: Towards an Azerbaijan University Network on Climate Change (AUNCCC),” Report informs.
According to Babayev, a UNICEF report for 2023 notes that climate-related disasters disrupt the education of nearly 40 million children each year.
“To fulfill the promise of the Paris Agreement and the Global Stocktake and deliver climate outcomes for future generations, we will need to enhance ambition and enable action. This means scaling up climate finance, including through a fair and ambitious New Collective Quantified Goal,” Babayev said.
We believe that strengthening education and capacity-building can play an important role in delivering climate action,” the COP29 president-designate said.
