Minister: Baku Harmoniya Climate Initiative to combine agriculture, food, water initiatives

The Baku Harmoniya Climate Initiative for Farmers will serve as a central platform combining initiatives in agriculture, food, and water sectors, Azerbaijani Minister of Agriculture Majnun Mammadov stated at a COP29 event themed "Launch of Baku Harmoniya Climate Initiative for Farmers: Empowering Farmers for Climate Resilience" held in Baku, Report informs.

"Although the initiative's goals are simple, they are crucial. First, it will serve as a central platform uniting initiatives, coalitions, and partnerships in the agriculture, food, and water sectors, providing farmers with practical knowledge, access to digital tools, and space to connect with best practices and innovations from around the world. By creating an effective center, we empower farmers to make informed, sustainable choices for their farms and futures,” Mammadov emphasized.

According to him, the second goal of the initiative is to mobilize investments supporting sustainable agriculture: "Agriculture requires significant resources. Through this initiative, we are committed to making these investments as accessible and impactful as possible. We are targeting new tools and projects to access climate finance in cooperation with international organizations, public and private financial institutions, and partners worldwide."

The minister noted that the third goal is to strengthen the capabilities of farmers, especially female and young farmers: "By enhancing our agricultural communities with essential tools, training, and climate finance, Harmony encourages farmers to confidently adopt sustainable practices. Azerbaijan has already taken significant steps in implementing these strategies at the national level, but we understand that climate resilience is a common challenge. By working with global partners, we can attract greater investment, share experiences, and create a sustainable future for agriculture."
