Mikayil Jabbarov: Azerbaijan understands that certain expectations are placed on it as host of COP29

Azerbaijan understands that certain hopes are placed on it as the host of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), Azerbaijani Minister of Economy Mikayil Jabbarov said during the panel discussions “COP28 and the road ahead” at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Report informs.

Asked about the successes and failures of last year's conference in Dubai, he noted that, given the complexity of the task ahead, COP28 was certainly a success. “Achievable results aimed at increasing energy efficiency, increasing the volume of renewable energy sources, tripling their use and abandoning fossil fuels allow us to speak of success,” the minister said. According to Mikayil Jabbarov, Azerbaijan is fully aware of the responsibility for the same successful continuation of the process. “The main topic will be ensuring financing mechanisms. This is extremely important,” Jabbarov said. “At COP 28, we discussed a lot and agreed on what exactly. Now we are looking forward to discussions with all parties on how to implement the agreements,” Jabbarov said.

The UN Climate Change Conference (COP) is currently the highest negotiating body for the implementation of the provisions of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, the Kyoto Protocol and the Paris Agreement (PA). On December 11, 2023, within the framework of COP28 in Dubai, Azerbaijan was officially announced as the chair of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change - COP29, which will be held in the country in November this year and will give Azerbaijan the opportunity to promote its climate agenda in the world.
