Majnun Mammadov: 'We will launch Harmoniya initiative to support farmers within COP29'

The Harmoniya Initiative will be launched at COP29 in Baku on November 19 to support farmers in the face of changing climate, Azerbaijan's Minister of Agriculture Majnun Mammadov said at the event "AgriFuture 2024: Climate-Resilient Agriculture Empowering Women, Youth, and Innovation for a Sustainable and Equitable Future" within COP29, Report informs.

According to the minister, the initiative will serve as a platform to provide farmers with necessary tools, resources, and connections for adaptation.

"On November 19, the World Food, Agriculture and Water Day, we will officially announce the launch of the Baku Harmoniya Initiative. This is a significant moment for us and an important step towards empowering farmers through sustainable solutions," Mammadov emphasized.

Mammadov stressed that agriculture forms the foundation of societies - it feeds people, supports the economy, and provides jobs for millions.

"Today, farmers face challenges such as climate change, limited resources, and changing market demands. All this puts pressure on agriculture from all sides. In Azerbaijan, we well understand these challenges and are committed to finding solutions that truly support our agricultural communities," said Mammadov.

According to the minister, the Harmoniya Initiative cannot succeed alone, and partnership is crucial.

"We are proud to work with organizations and governments represented here today. By combining our experience, resources, and commitment, we can build not just a surviving but thriving agricultural sector that ensures food security, economic strength, and environmental care for all. Together, we can create an agricultural future that empowers our farmers and overcomes tomorrow's challenges," Mammadov concluded.
