Leslie Adogame: Waste incineration should be abandoned in Africa

Burning waste in Africa does not solve the problems in this regard, Leslie Adogame, Executive Director of Sustainable Research for Action and Development (SRADev) Nigeria, stated at the Global Methane Commitment event held within the framework of COP29, Report informs.

"Waste incineration is not a solution to the relevant problems in Africa. It is a dirty energy source like burning coal. Moreover, it is a wasteful and imported technology," Adogame emphasized.

According to Adogame, there are safer and more economically viable alternatives to burning: "These alternatives not only prevent health risks but also produce more energy or save energy. Especially when considering health-related costs, these methods are cheaper."

The executive director added that Africa needs more effective and sustainable solutions in waste management.
