IRENA: Lack of infrastructure among main obstacles in accelerating energy transition

Lack of adequate infrastructure is one of the main obstacles in accelerating energy transition, Gurbuz Gonul, Director of Country Engagements and Partnership at the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), stated at the Central Asian Regional Seminar titled "Tripling renewable energy installed capacity by 2030: Taking practical action to accelerate renewable energy deployment in Central Asia" organized within the framework of COP29, Report informs.

According to Gonul, different regions suffer from inadequate infrastructure and weak support for its development.

The IRENA official noted that there should be special technical support and capacity-building efforts in all regions.

"The private sector exists in many countries of the region. That means we can involve the private sector more in this process. We can create favorable frameworks for investors to feel more confident and then mobilize them in this area. Investment is one of the key components in these matters. Finally, green industrialization that enables creating local value is also one of the components," Gonul added.
