The final document adopted at the Parliamentary Meeting will serve as a roadmap for parliamentarians, said Martin Chungong, secretary general of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), following the two-day Parliamentary Meeting within the COP29, Report informs.
He called this meeting historic. The IPU head thanked the Parliament of Azerbaijan for hosting the meeting and noted that the adopted final document will make an important contribution.
"The document is the result of a very consultative process. We sought to obtain the common opinion of parliament members. This document serves as a roadmap for parliamentarians, promoting unity and solidarity. More than 300 participants attended the meeting. We must understand that serious measures need to be taken regarding climate change," Chungong noted.
He stressed that the Parliamentary Meeting is now at the center of COP discussions.
