IPU Sec.-Gen.: Climate action funding needs to increase

During the Parliamentary meeting discussions, the importance of immediate action was emphasized, Martin Chungong, secretary-general of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), told Report.

He noted that upon completion of COP29, a resolution is expected to be adopted calling for urgent measures to prevent the climate crisis: "We want to see that the discussions will result in a decisive decision promoting fair and equitable climate action. We don't want climate actions to harm particular segments of society. We strive to work together to ensure that the interests of all people and communities are taken into account in the fight against climate change."

The secretary-general emphasized the need to increase resources directed towards climate action: "It is necessary to increase funding for climate activities. I believe that solidarity in this matter is extremely important. The slogan of this conference is 'solidarity with a green world'."
