The International Monetary Fund (IMF) is working with Azerbaijan on climate transition risks, IMF representative Alessandra Alfieri said at the event "Measuring Climate Risks for Smarter Adaptation and Mitigation Solutions" within COP29, Report informs.
"We are also working on physical risks with Mozambique and transition risks with Barbados and other countries. We have focused our attention primarily on supporting countries developing energy and emission accounts, that is, linking energy and emission data with economic activity. We are also developing a training curriculum as there is a great need for capacity building from high-level officials to technical workers to understand the importance of climate data and how it can be used for policy," she noted.
Additionally, the IMF representative said that the organization is currently supporting 10 countries in developing and strengthening their environmental and climate change statistics program.
"First and foremost, we work with national statistical offices, central banks, and the Ministry of Finance. We are currently preparing a harmonized set of charts and indicators that will be used in Article 4 consultations," Alfieri added.
