A global study by the International Labor Organization (ILO) shows that the transition to energy sustainability and circular economy may create over 100 million jobs worldwide by 2030, ILO Assistant Director-General for the Jobs and Social Protection Cluster Mia Seppo said at the Baku Initiative on Human Development for Climate Resilience session within COP29, Report informs.
She noted that national adaptation plans and other issues should pay attention to youth, children, and women: "It is necessary to prioritize citizen development, focusing on education, skills, healthcare, jobs, and social protection. The ILO global study shows that the transition to energy sustainability and circular economy could create more than 100 million jobs globally by 2030."
Seppo noted that realizing the full labor potential depends on major investments in education and training for new green jobs, as well as retraining and upskilling to help workers transition into new emerging green sectors: "Along with this, support for workers during the transition period must be ensured."
