IEC Chief: Global renewable energy production to surge 10-fold by 2030

Global renewable energy production is set to exceed 10 terawatts by 2030, a staggering tenfold increase from current levels, said Philippe Metzger, Secretary-General and CEO of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), Report informs.

Speaking at a high-level roundtable on Green Digital Action held as part of COP29, Metzger emphasized the critical importance of intensifying efforts to modernize energy grids. "By 2040, reforms and modernization must be carried out on energy networks spanning 80 million kilometers," he noted.

Metzger stated that IEC enables the development of renewable energy systems, microgrids, and advanced energy storage technologies by creating standards. He stressed that the sustainability of the technologies themselves is also of paramount importance.

"We are proponents of sustainable approaches," he declared. "Standards and conformity systems for digitally connected infrastructure, energy efficiency, energy management of data servers, ecodesign, and electrotechnical products exemplify this approach."
