Hindou Oumarou Ibrahim calls for active involvement of women in climate process

Women should be actively involved in addressing global climate issues, and financial resources should be allocated to them for this purpose, Hindou Oumarou Ibrahim, co-chair of the International and Local Peoples' Forum on Climate Change, said during the discussion "The Connection Between Gender, Climate and Security: Women's Role in Environmental Protection and Restoration in Conflict Zones" at COP29.

Report quotes her as saying the key point is women's access to decision-making institutions and their active participation in this process.

Women cannot participate in decision-making, men deal with peace and security issues, she said.

"When they discuss these topics, only men are in positions who talk about maintaining peace and tranquility for the rest of society," she noted, adding that women should also be represented at a high level.
