High-level event on COP29 global initiatives held at UN

During the UN Climate Week and the 79th session of the UN General Assembly, a high-level side event was organized at the UN headquarters in New York, focusing on the global initiatives included in the agenda of the COP29 Presidency of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).

According to Report, the event, organized by the COP29 Presidency, brought together high-level representatives from UN specialized agencies, member states, and delegations of UNFCCC parties, as well as diplomats, politicians, civil society, and private sector representatives.

Speaking at the event, COP29 Lead Negotiator and Azerbaijan's Deputy Foreign Minister Yalchin Rafiyev provided a detailed overview of the COP29 global initiatives. He emphasized that the COP29 Presidency agenda represents ambitious efforts to advance in all key areas of climate action, including energy, finance, agriculture, water management, urban development, human development, and the climate-peace nexus. Rafiyev stressed the importance of finance as a crucial mechanism for implementing climate actions.

The Azerbaijani diplomat elaborated on the 14 initiatives included in the COP29 Presidency agenda, stating that they will make significant contributions to climate action. He expressed gratitude to UN specialized agencies for their support in developing the COP29 Presidency's global initiatives.

High-level UN representatives at the event underscored the importance of the COP29 Presidency's global initiatives in their respective areas and pledged support for their implementation.

A message from the Minister of Foreign Affairs to the event participants was also delivered, emphasizing Azerbaijan's readiness to lead by example in raising ambitions and facilitating climate action. The message called upon all countries, organizations, philanthropic foundations, financial institutions, and individuals to join the COP29 Presidency in this critical mission and act swiftly and decisively.

The event concluded with discussions on opportunities for cooperation and partnerships to advance the COP29 Presidency's priorities and unite global efforts in combating climate change.
