Global partnership platform to be created for development of tourism under climate goals

A memorandum of understanding has been signed between the Azerbaijan State Tourism Agency (STA) and the UN World Tourism Organization (WTO) on the sidelines of COP29.

Report informs that the document was signed by STA Chairman Fuad Naghiyev and WTO Secretary-General Zurab Pololikashvili.

The document expresses the intention to cooperate and work jointly with the UN World Tourism Organization to successfully implement the Enhanced Climate Action Initiative in Tourism.

This initiative, announced during the First Ministerial Meeting on Enhanced Climate Action in the Tourism Sector, envisions creating a global coordination mechanism and partnership platform for better integration of tourism into national climate policy and development of the sector in line with climate objectives.

The memorandum of understanding aims to create favorable conditions for establishing the mentioned coordination and partnership platform, ensure the continuation of the initiated initiative in subsequent periods, and support the transformation of the tourism sector into an area that contributes to a low-carbon and sustainable future.
