Germany hopes that Azerbaijan's chairmanship of the upcoming COP29 climate conference will be inclusive and engage with activists, NGOs, scientists, and businesses willing to contribute to the process, Jennifer Morgan, State Secretary at the German Foreign Ministry, said speaking to journalists in Luxembourg.
According to Report, Morgan emphasized the need for a collaborative approach in tackling the global climate crisis.
The German official praised the recent Pre-COP29 conference held in Baku last week, describing it as productive and demonstrating the active involvement of many countries in combating climate change. However, she acknowledged that there is still a long way to go and assured that the European Union will play an active role in ensuring the success of the COP29 conference.
Morgan highlighted the urgency of addressing the devastating impacts of climate change, citing examples such as floods in central and Eastern Europe, hurricanes in the United States, and the consequences felt in Nepal and Africa. She also stressed the need to discuss at COP29 a rapid transition to a green economy, an area where progress has been made but further advancements are necessary.
The main objective of the meeting of EU climate ministers in Luxembourg, according to Morgan, is to discuss preparations for COP29 in Baku. She emphasized the importance of implementing the agreements reached last year on energy transition and ensuring that countries follow through on their commitments.
