Climate changes lead to the spread of dangerous diseases, straining healthcare systems and undermining financial stability, Gerard Howe, head of the Department for Adaptation, Nature and Resilience at the UK's Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), said at the high-level ministerial meeting on healthcare at COP29, Report informs.
He noted that the most vulnerable populations suffer as a result of such crises.
"We should take advantage of the opportunities that arise from our actions to overcome the crisis to stimulate innovation, technology, and research. These measures will lead to creating a healthier future and more resilient systems," he said.
According to Howe, climate and health require a coordinated approach from partners with different capabilities and financial resources.
"We welcome COP29 presidency's commitment to partnership in creating the vital 'Climate and Health' coalition, and it is a great honor for the United Kingdom to participate in it and do everything possible to support it," he noted.
