Gabriela Ramos, the Deputy Director-General for Social and Human Sciences at UNESCO, emphasizes the crucial role of youth in combating climate change and expresses optimism for positive outcomes at COP29 in Baku.
According to Report, speaking to journalists at the conference, Ramos called upon the younger generation to actively participate and make their voices heard.
She also stressed the need for the youth to hold others accountable, as it is the youth who will inherit the world we live in. Ramos stressed the importance of young people's contributions in ensuring that climate action commitments are fulfilled.
The UNESCO official also highlighted the significance of addressing the most critical issue, that is climate finance, at COP29.
According to her, after the agreement on the loss and damage fund was reached last year, it was certainly appropriate for the conference in Azerbaijan to focus on the issue of financing. She emphasized its importance for the success of the conference.
Ramos expressed hope that the participating countries and all stakeholders at COP29 will exert efforts to ensure the necessary level of ambition in tackling the climate crisis.
