Fatih Birol: IEA data to be discussed at 3rd high-level dialogue

The third high-level dialogue on energy transition of the International Energy Agency (IEA) and the COP29 presidency, which will be held today in New York as part of the UN General Assembly and Climate Week, will focus on the findings of the IEA report on the implementation of the COP28 energy targets, the head of the agency Fatih Birol wrote on X, Report informs.

"Tripling renewables and doubling energy efficiency would cut emissions by 10 billion tons by 2030 vs current path, getting the world 2/3 of the way to a Paris-aligned energy system. Tripling renewables by 2030 is within reach thanks to favorable economics, manufacturing potential and policies. But unlocking the full economic and emissions benefits can only be achieved if globally we deliver: 25 million km of new/modernized grids, 1,500 GW of energy storage. Doubling the rate of energy efficiency progress this decade is also critical and will improve energy security and affordability Governments worldwide need to make efficiency a much greater policy priority and focus relentlessly on key actions, which will vary among different economies," he wrote.
